General Information

Q: What is NFL Flag Football?
A: NFL Flag Football is a non-contact version of football designed for boys and girls. Players learn the fundamentals of football, teamwork, and sportsmanship in a fun, inclusive environment.

Q: What age groups can participate?
A: NFL Flag Football offers divisions for children aged 5-17, divided into age brackets.

Q: Are boys and girls allowed to play together?
A: Yes, we coed NFL Flag leagues NFL Flag, however we also have an All Girls League.

Q: What are the benefits of playing NFL Flag Football?
A: Players develop athletic skills, improve coordination, build confidence, and learn teamwork while staying active in a safe, non-contact setting.


Registration and Fees

Q: How do I register my child?
A: Visit the Neighborhood Sports website to register your child online. Registration deadlines and links will be posted there.

Q: What does the registration fee cover?
A: Registration fees include an official NFL Flag jersey, a set of flags, and league operational costs.

Q: Are there scholarships available?
A: Yes, financial assistance may be available for families in need. Please take a look at the NFL Flag Fund & the Reduced Fee Program


Teams and Divisions

Q: How are teams formed?
A: Teams are formed based on age groups and, when possible, player requests for teammates or coaches. We strive to balance teams for fair competition.

Q: Can I request my child to play with specific teammates or a specific coach?
A: Yes, you may make requests during registration, but accommodations are not guaranteed.

Q: How many players are on a team?
A: Teams generally consist of 10 players max, depending on the league size and age division.


Season Details

Q: When does the season start and end?
A: The season runs for 7 weeks, including practices, regular-season games, and playoffs. Specific dates will be provided during registration.

Q: Where are games and practices held?
A: Games are based on league location, please see the registration page for details. Practices are scheduled by the volunteer head coach of the team.

Q: How often are practices and games?
A: Teams usually practice once a week, with games scheduled on weekends. The schedule may vary based on the league and age group.


Equipment and Uniforms

Q: What equipment does my child need?
A: Players need cleats (no metal spikes), mouthguards, and comfortable athletic wear. The league provides flags and jerseys.

Q: What should my child wear to games and practices?
A: Players must wear their official NFL Flag jersey, shorts or athletic pants, and mouthguards during games.


Rules and Gameplay

Q: How does NFL Flag Football differ from tackle football?
A: NFL Flag is non-contact, and players pull flags instead of tackling. The game emphasizes speed, strategy, and skill over physicality.

Q: How long are games?
A: Games typically consist of two 20-minute halves with a running clock and a brief halftime.

Q: Are there referees?
A: Yes, trained referees officiate all games to ensure fair play and enforce the rules.

Q: Can parents volunteer to coach or assist?
A: Absolutely! Our program relies on parents and family volunteers to coach and manage our teams! We encourage all family members interested in volunteering to do so during the registration process. We will provide you several resources, to ensure all coaches have a fun and successful season!

A: League updates will be shared via email, league websites, and social media channels.


Health and Safety

Q: How does the league ensure player safety?
A: The league follows NFL Flag safety guidelines, promotes proper technique, and requires the use of mouthguards. Non-contact play reduces the risk of injury.

Q: What is the league’s weather policy?
A: Games and practices may be canceled or rescheduled due to inclement weather. Updates will be sent via email or posted online.
