At Neighborhood Sports, we take pride in selecting dedicated officials who uphold the integrity of the game and enhance the experience for players, coaches, and families at both national and local levels.
No Experience? No Problem!
We provide all the training you need. New officials must complete:
✅ An online rules test (minimum passing score: 80%)
✅ On-field training with an experienced official (approx. 2 hours)
Note: Training is unpaid, but it’s an investment in your success!

What Expenses Should I Expect?
To officiate, you’ll need to invest in some essential gear:
- Referee Shirt – A black and white striped officiating shirt (available at stores like Academy Sports).
- Pants or Shorts – Black football officiating pants or shorts with a contrasting white side stripe.
- Lanyard – Solid black lanyard.
- Whistle – A must-have for making the calls loud and clear.
- Belt – Black belt to complete your uniform.
- Shoes & Socks – All black shoes and socks for a professional look.
- Penalty Flag – A yellow penalty flag (available for purchase through Neighborhood Sports).
- Hat – A black cap with white piping (standard referee headwear).
- Stopwatch – A dedicated stopwatch (no phone timers allowed).
How Much Will I Get Paid?
Pay varies by league location, but officials typically earn $20–$25 per hour to start.
